SOTI MobiControl Review: Pros, Cons, Features and Pricing
I look beyond the feature list to weigh MobiControl’s strengths, trade-offs, and pricing—and whether its device management approach fits your team.
We review tools independently, and commissions help fund our testing. See our transparency policy, our methodology, or suggest a tool.
SOTI MobiControl is MDM software for managing mobile, rugged, and IoT devices across operating systems. I’d consider it for teams that need to secure and remotely support distributed frontline device fleets; compared with Microsoft Intune, MobiControl is a stronger fit when specialized rugged devices and hands-on remote troubleshooting are central to the job.

SOTI MobiControl Overview
I’d choose SOTI MobiControl for distributed teams managing rugged, shared, or older devices across Android, iOS, Windows, macOS, and Linux. Its enrollment options, policy controls, geofencing, firmware management, and remote troubleshooting give it an edge in complex frontline deployments, while its broad scope can make setup and administration feel heavier than simpler MDM tools. The browser interface is capable but takes orientation; plan for a deliberate rollout. Pricing is quote-led and can feel high, so compare license and support tiers. Native SOTI tools and identity integrations suit established mobility environments, though buyers seeking a broad app ecosystem should check fit first.
Pros
- Remote control and incident snapshots support hands-on field troubleshooting.
- Broad OS support accommodates rugged, legacy, and mixed device fleets.
- Reviewers praise remote troubleshooting and tracking for scanner-heavy fleets.
Cons
- Custom reporting is limited and may require support.
- The console’s dated navigation and detailed configuration burden slow administration.
- Licensing costs and inconsistent support can burden smaller teams.
Our Review Methodology
How We Test & Score Tools
We’ve spent years building, refining, and improving our software testing and scoring system. The rubric is designed to capture the nuances of software selection and what makes a tool effective, focusing on critical aspects of the decision-making process.
Below, you can see exactly how our testing and scoring works across seven criteria. It allows us to provide an unbiased evaluation of the software based on core functionality, standout features, ease of use, onboarding, customer support, integrations, customer reviews, and value for money.
Core Functionality (25% of final scoring)
The starting point of our evaluation is always the core functionality of the tool. Does it have the basic features and functions that a user would expect to see? Are any of those core features locked to higher-tiered pricing plans? At its core, we expect a tool to stand up against the baseline capabilities of its competitors.
Standout Features (25% of final scoring)
Next, we evaluate uncommon standout features that go above and beyond the core functionality typically found in tools of its kind. A high score reflects specialized or unique features that make the product faster, more efficient, or offer additional value to the user.
We also evaluate how easy it is to integrate with other tools typically found in the tech stack to expand the functionality and utility of the software. Tools offering plentiful native integrations, 3rd party connections, and API access to build custom integrations score best.
Ease of Use (10% of final scoring)
We consider how quick and easy it is to execute the tasks defined in the core functionality using the tool. High scoring software is well designed, intuitive to use, offers mobile apps, provides templates, and makes relatively complex tasks seem simple.
Onboarding (10% of final scoring)
We know how important rapid team adoption is for a new platform, so we evaluate how easy it is to learn and use a tool with minimal training. We evaluate how quickly a team member can get set up and start using the tool with no experience. High scoring solutions indicate little or no support is required.
Customer Support (10% of final scoring)
We review how quick and easy it is to get unstuck and find help by phone, live chat, or knowledge base. Tools and companies that provide real-time support score best, while chatbots score worst.
Customer Reviews (10% of final scoring)
Beyond our own testing and evaluation, we consider the net promoter score from current and past customers. We review their likelihood, given the option, to choose the tool again for the core functionality. A high scoring software reflects a high net promoter score from current or past customers.
Value for Money (10% of final scoring)
Lastly, in consideration of all the other criteria, we review the average price of entry level plans against the core features and consider the value of the other evaluation criteria. Software that delivers more, for less, will score higher.
Core Features
Enrollment and Provisioning
MobiControl enrolls devices through options such as Android Zero-Touch Enrollment, Apple Device Enrollment Program, Windows Autopilot, and SOTI Stage. You can assign profiles and packages by user role or location, helping standardize setup across distributed teams.
Cross-Platform Device Management
MobiControl manages Android, iOS, macOS, Windows, and Linux devices, including rugged hardware and IoT endpoints. Centralized management lets your team apply policies across a mixed fleet while handling OS and firmware updates remotely.
Application Management
You can deploy apps to managed devices and use allowlists or blocklists to control which apps are available. MobiControl supports app delivery through Apple Volume Purchase Program and Google Play, so teams can provision work apps without relying on users to install them manually.
Security Policies and Kiosk Mode
MobiControl applies device policies and can lock devices to approved business apps through kiosk mode. This suits shared scanners or point-of-sale devices that need a limited, consistent app environment.
Remote Control and Incident Capture
IT staff can remotely control devices and document problems with screenshots, video recordings, whiteboarding, and device data snapshots. That gives support teams useful evidence and a way to troubleshoot a field device without an onsite visit.
Geofencing and Location Services
MobiControl shows current locations for online devices and retains last-known locations for offline devices. Geofences can trigger changes to device access, apps, or content, such as restricting a device’s features when it leaves an approved area.

Ease of Use
I find SOTI MobiControl capable but harder to learn than simpler MDM tools. Its central console brings device policies, app deployment, tracking, and remote control together, which helps when troubleshooting devices in the field. However, the interface can feel dated, and complex settings require time to understand. Expect to invest in setup and administrator training before the console becomes manageable.

Integrations
SOTI MobiControl integrates with SOTI XSight, SOTI Connect, SOTI Snap, Apple Business Manager (formerly Apple VPP), Managed Google Play, Microsoft Intune, and Microsoft Entra ID, among others.
SOTI MobiControl also offers a REST API for custom integrations with enterprise workflows and third-party applications.
